Ragi Poori and chole [ there was also Buttermilk, not in photo]

Ever since moving to Pune, I have been looking for interesting places to try, and it has been an amazing journey so far. I believe Pune has cracked South Indian food more than any other city [apart from TN ofcourse]. The food, the sweet dishes and the coffee is closest to what we make at home and some of the places we’ve tried has been consistently good, maintaining standards. Yesterday morning we decided to order in breakfast & try a new place. P picked Arambam [ a place we’ve seen earlier but not tried yet. Their menu was all millets and seemed interesting]. The breakfast we ordered proved to be a delightful culinary journey, blending nutrition with flavour in the best ways possible.

The Magic of Millets at Arambam

Millets have recently been making waves in the wellness world due to their health benefits, but Arambam takes it a step further, crafting dishes that are not only wholesome but also bursting with flavour. The restaurant’s dedication to this humble grain results in a menu that feels as delicious as it does nourishing.

Breakfast Delights: From Kheer to Poori Chole

As we dove into breakfast, the offerings felt both familiar and innovative. We ordered
1.A Mini Breakfast Combo – Ragi Idli, Masala dosai, Millet pongal, Millet kheer, peanut chutney and sambar. The standout dish, without question, was the Millet Kheer. This isn’t your average kheer; the texture was creamy, and the flavour had a wonderful, earthy quality. Lightly sweetened, with hints of cardamom and saffron, it’s the kind of dish that leaves you wanting more with each spoonful. It’s hard to believe this treat is also good for you. I also opted for Ragimalt along with this. It has been decades since i had this drink and so got excited seeing it on a menu. It was savoury and tasted so good

2. Poori and Chole – Ragi poori [2] and chole – The Chole was amazing, very different from what we’ve had at other places. So far, Haldirams Chole was the best, but this one beat that. The classic pairing took on a fresh, hearty dimension, with the poori made from millet flour. It had a slightly nutty taste, perfectly complementing the richly spiced chole. Light, fluffy, and not overly oily, the poori struck the right balance, making it a fabulous choice for a filling, flavourful breakfast. We ordered buttermilk along with this, which was quite refreshing.

Why Arambam is Worth a Try

Now, am curious to visit the outlet to see how the food is when served hot. For anyone in Pune looking to experience the versatility of millets in a vibrant, traditional breakfast spread, Arambam should be on your radar. Based on our experience, they’ve turned everyday dishes into something memorable, making breakfast not only a meal but a mindful, enjoyable start to the day.
