Yesterday morning had to go S’s office to drop off a sample [related to work] and on the way back home, bumped into my colleague’s sis,V… Spent a few minutes talking to her[ it had been ages] and then she invited me to join her for a cuppa coffee at French Loaf, Harrington Road… What the heck, went in, we had a cup of Latte, and nibbled on a Mushroom Onion Quiche [i wonder why those yummy things are called quiche.. what the hell is that???wierd name for a dish dont u think??:) ]
anyways… moving on to the main point….we were done, and while leaving, i made a beeline for their bread section, picked out a small garlic bread stick thingy, and a packet of veg curry bread.. but after 2mins, decided against the bread, and gave it back.. immediately one of the manager guys came upto me [ i thot he was a manager, cos he was wearing a tie and all :)] and asked “is it because of the date, ma’am?”.. took me a minute to understand what he was saying …[ding ding ding.. he is talking about manufacture date of bread].. i replied “no, i just realised i dont need bread”… he walked away….
Few mins later, while at the bill counter, another guy pops up behind the counter and asked “ma’am, we’ve got fresh stock, would you like a loaf of that?”… i was like “no, thank you…’.. the schmuck who is manning the till shows me a bill with the loaf of bread i had cancelled, saying “its already there on the bill, take something instead..” and am like ‘wtf.. i dont want the bread, cancel it..”[ puhlease, its not like i took a bite of it and then gave it back…”… he waits staring at me.. i stare at him.. and then i noticed a movement next to me… one of those tie clad manager guys came over, gave an eye signal to our schmuck, who immediately redid the bill and gave it to me…..
well… made me wonder how the guys working at places notice small things…. normally, no one would have asked me why i put the loaf back.. but here, BECAUSE it was old stock, they thot i was returning it… and it made me wonder.. what if i had bot it, and it had rotted in a day… would i have noticed the date and gone back asking for refund? why were they selling stuff that was not fresh?????? hmmm!!!
Ooops!!!
Yups… we are bit like that… I remeber.. once I was on amedical shop and the medicine I purchased had expiry of day after tomorrow…the shop owner said… u cud have it dont worry… wen I asked him to give bill he simply refused… said rudely… dont buy them…look at another shop…
They do that. Recently I wanted cat food, Royal Canine and this guy said he only sells it loose. How do we know it is genuine stuff without a sealed packet? How do we check the expiry date?
Maybe it is some locally made stuff?
Ok, now this happens in any store. Theres even a product placement startegy called FIFO and LIFO which these food retail stores or supermarkets follow. They keep the latest stock at the end of the rack keeping the old stock in front so that they dont end up destroying the product. To share one more thing, the products are supposed to be destroyed by the company officials according to the company norms the month they get expired. Destroy in such a way that even a stray animal finds it difficult to consume. If you find any such product, you could inform the Weights and Measurements section and they will send a legal notice to the company through the companys distributor. But in your situation, if its a cafe or a bakery, its a lill difficult cuz theres not going to be any label on when they serve.
true…nice observation 😀
He he…. Thavalai than vaayaal kedum 😛 ….
A sort of eye opener, what all can happen to even old food stuff being palmed off

Dimwits normally don’t check the bill ORTEE, in hi fundoos places i am scared to argue, i just pay. In anodder hi fundoos place in Brigade road i was buyin greeting cards. i had little money in my pocket. so i was checkin the price of each card i bought and doing mental calculation so that the thing doesn’t exceed the money in my pocket. at the billing counter i was shocked, it was 200 more than i had in mind. so i totalled all the greeting cards again before payin and i was almost right and i yelled. top of my voice, same thing guy with tie came rushing trying to hush me up, mistake sir, mistake sir, i said no mistake you did it deliberately people normally don’t check. and you take adavatage of that. i was screaming.
then i turned to the crowd and told them to check before they pay.
guess I need to be more careful while buying stuff
I agree to Rauf’s point here. Had a similiar experience in beleive me..our own odyssey.. they overpriced a perfume..some 350 more than the label price. Luckily I had bought only 3 items that day, else wud not have realized the error.
Looks like the french loaf guys wanted you to get back ur flu 🙂
