Coffee shop culture in India has been growing rapidly in recent years. Cafes and coffee shops are no longer just places to grab a quick cup of coffee or tea; they have become popular meeting places for people to socialize, work, and relax.

One of the main reasons for the rise of coffee shop culture in India is the growth of remote work. More and more people are working from home or from co-working spaces, and coffee shops are a popular alternative to working from home. Coffee shops offer a comfortable and productive environment to work, with free Wi-Fi, plenty of seating, and a variety of food and beverage options.

Another reason for the rise of coffee shop culture is the changing demographics of India. India has a young and growing population, and many young people are drawn to the modern and cosmopolitan atmosphere of coffee shops. Coffee shops are also seen as places to be seen, and they are often frequented by celebrities and influencers.

The rise of coffee shop culture is having a positive impact on the Indian economy. Coffee shops are creating jobs and helping to boost the local economy. Coffee shops are also helping to promote entrepreneurship and innovation, as they provide a space for people to meet and collaborate on new ideas.

I am also one of those who loves working from a coffee shop, except I probably do it when the internet is down at home, or I just need a change of place to clear my head/focus. I cannot just go to any coffee shop to work from, there are a few where I find it comfortable. When I was in Chennai, there were 2-3 places I was happy to work from, one of them was Writer’s Cafe and the other was Chamiers Cafe in Anokhi. And now, in Pune, I love working out of Third wave coffee in Balewadi. Some of the Starbucks are good, well they do have free Wi-Fi and I have also found Cafe Peter [in Pimple Nilakh] is a good place to work from.  How about you?

From the time I started freelancing, I’ve realised coffee shops are the best places to work from, especially when you are unable to focus or when you are travelling. Based on my experience, here are some of the benefits of working out of coffee shops:

  • Free Wi-Fi: Most coffee shops offer free Wi-Fi, which is essential for remote workers.
  • Comfortable seating: Coffee shops typically have a variety of seating options, from couches and armchairs to tables and chairs. This allows remote workers to find a comfortable place to work, even if they are staying for a long period of time.
  • Food and beverage options: Coffee shops offer a variety of food and beverage options, which can be convenient for remote workers who don’t want to leave their workspace to get lunch or a snack.
  • Social atmosphere: Coffee shops can be a social place to work, especially if you are looking to meet new people or collaborate on projects.
  • Change of scenery: Working from a coffee shop can provide a change of scenery from working from home, which can help to improve productivity and creativity.

Of course, there are also some drawbacks to working out of coffee shops. For example, coffee shops can be noisy and crowded, which can make it difficult to concentrate. Additionally, some coffee shops may not have enough seating or power outlets to accommodate remote workers.

Overall, the rise of coffee shop culture is a positive development for India. Coffee shops are providing a valuable resource for remote workers, and they are helping to boost the local economy.

Here are some tips for working out of coffee shops:

  • Choose a coffee shop that is quiet and has plenty of seating.
  • Bring your own laptop and charger.
  • Order a drink or food item to support the business.
  • Be aware of your surroundings and take breaks to move around.
  • If you need to take a call or have a meeting, find a quiet spot in the coffee shop or use a noise-cancelling headset.

If you are looking for a place to work remotely, consider working out of a coffee shop. It can be a great way to get a change of scenery, meet new people, and enjoy a delicious cup of coffee while you work.

Few Tips:
1. Charge your laptop at home to 100% before stepping out, else you will be constantly looking for a seat that has a charging point nearby.
2. Do order some beverage and food while at the coffee shop.
3. If you are a single person sitting in a table meant for 2/3, make sure to let others take the chair if they need.
4. Some coffee shops have a long community table of sorts, which are ideal to sit and work from, if you don’t mind sharing space. Just carry headphones to drown out other voices/sound.
