Last week, I had the pleasure of catching up with friends over dinner at Murphies Bistro and Bar, a charming spot nestled on Prabhat Road in Pune. It used to be in Koregaon Park, before they shut and relocated to this part of town. I’ve been wanting to visit but kept hearing mixed reviews and so when friends were in town and asked for suggestions I included this place as one of the options, and voila, they picked it. The evening turned out to be an unforgettable experience, with the ambiance and food working in perfect harmony to create a relaxed yet vibrant vibe.
As we pulled into the place, we were glad they had valet parking, cos otherwise it would have been nightmare to find parking on that road. Friends had already reached and managed to find a table as well.
Ambiance That Sets the Tone Murphies’ decor exudes a welcoming warmth, combining a modern yet earthy aesthetic. From its softly lit corners to the tasteful use of wood and greenery, the space makes you feel instantly at ease. Whether you’re looking for a cozy conversation nook or a lively group setting, this place caters to it all effortlessly.
We chose to sit in the semi-open space, which added to the charm of the evening. The fresh air and cozy setup created the perfect backdrop for our dinner. Thankfully, there weren’t too many smokers around, keeping the environment pleasant and clean—a big plus for those who value a smoke-free dining experience.
Drinks – They have quite an extensive Bar menu, but the one thing we opted for was beer. I chose the Organic Wit, while the men went for the Lager. Beers are from Oi and were quite good.
A Culinary Delight The menu at Murphies offers a thoughtful mix of options, striking a balance between classics and innovative creations. Here’s what we indulged in during our visit:
- Arancini Balls: Crispy on the outside and perfectly gooey on the inside, these were a great way to start our meal. The accompanying dip added just the right tang to each bite.
- A Lamb Starter: This dish was a standout. Tender, flavourful, and beautifully spiced, it was the perfect choice for meat lovers.
- Pizza: Ortolana [loaded with Vegetables]: A thin wellcooked sourdough crust loaded with fresh, vibrant toppings. The combination of flavours was delightful, and the crust had just the right amount of crunch.
- Fettuccine Carbonara [with Bacon Bits]: Creamy and indulgent, this pasta dish was a crowd-pleaser. The bacon bits added a smoky depth that elevated the entire dish.
The Verdict Murphies isn’t just a place to eat; it’s where food, ambiance, and good company come together seamlessly. Each dish we tried reflected a commitment to quality and flavour, making the experience all the more memorable. Whether it’s for an intimate dinner or a larger gathering, this is a spot worth revisiting. I left with a full stomach and a happy heart—and isn’t that the hallmark of a truly great dining experience?
