Bangalore has no shortage of breakfast spots, but when you’re craving hearty South Indian fare with an Andhra twist, Babai Tiffins in HSR Layout is where you want to be. We dropped by recently and walked out with happy stomachs and a big smile, thanks to their simple yet satisfying spread.

What We Tried

  • Idli:
Soft, pillowy, and served piping hot, the idlis were exactly what you hope for on a lazy morning. They paired beautifully with the chutneys and the sambhar, both of which had that homely touch.

  • Mysore Bhajji:
This one stole the show. Golden on the outside and dense inside, these little fritters were served with chutney and had just the right balance of crunch and warmth. Definitely something we’d order again. Was curiousnto try this cos the partner had been here earlier, tried this and raved about it.. He did mention that the time he had this it was soft and light inside, but this time around it was dense..

  • Ghee Podi Masala Dosai:
The star dish. Crisp edges, a generous sprinkle of podi, and that unmistakable aroma of ghee—this dosa was indulgent yet comforting. The masala inside was mildly spiced and complemented the podi’s punch perfectly.

  • Poori Baaji:
HUGE, Light, fluffy pooris with a mildly spiced potato baaji made for a simple, no-fuss plate. A classic done right.

  • Filter Coffee:
No South Indian breakfast is complete without coffee. Strong, frothy, and served in a steel tumbler, this one rounded off the meal in true traditional style.

  • Peanut chutney– this one deserves a special mention cos it was smooth, flavour packed and absolutely yummm…

The entire breakfast was Rs330 approx.

The Babai Tiffins Experience

What stood out at Babai Tiffins was the flavours and how organised and clean the entire place was. The flavours are rooted in Andhra traditions, yet familiar to anyone who loves South Indian food. The place has a casual, no-nonsense vibe—perfect for a quick breakfast run or a leisurely weekend morning with friends. The space is huge, with a standing station on ground floor near the food cunters, and seating upstairs. Noticed they also sold a range of Andhra snacks and sweets. Also, we placed our order on the touch screen unit placed near the entrance, easy and smooth.

If you’re in HSR and looking for a breakfast spot that serves more than just the usual dosa-idli routine, Babai Tiffins should be on your list. Whether it’s the hearty Mysore Bhajji or the ghee-laden podi dosai, there’s a plate for every craving.
