Some of the best South Indian food in Bangalore isn’t always served in swanky restaurants or Instagram-famous cafés—it’s hidden away in unassuming little joints. S N Refreshments in JP Nagar is one such gem. A true hole-in-the-wall eatery, it proves yet again that good food doesn’t need frills. Came to know of this place during the thindi walk, someone mentioned this place is real good and their idlies esp are divine… So, obviously it stayed on my mind and one weekend when P was travelling, I asked D if she wanted to catch up for breaktast somewhere and during the course of the conversation mentioned this place and that is where we headed.

What We Ate

  • Idli
Soft, steaming hot, and paired with chutney that had the right kick of spice. The kind of idli that makes you wonder why we even bother trying to make them at home. The chutney served with idli and vadai was watered down and therefore milder. The sambar was good and spicy.

  • Vadai
Golden, crunchy on the outside, and fluffy inside—this medu vada was simple yet spot-on. Dunked into chutney or sambar, it disappeared within minutes.

  • Plain Crisp Dosai
We decided to share one, and it turned out to be a smart move. Paper-thin, golden brown, and crackly with every bite—the dosa here is all about technique and patience. No excess oil, just pure crunch and comfort. The chutney served with this one was thick and nice.. And there was no sambar~ interesting concept..

  • Filter Coffee
This was the perfect closer. Strong, aromatic, and with that beautiful froth that only South Indian filter coffee manages to get right. Honestly, we’d go back just for the coffee.

The Charm of S N Refreshments

What makes this place special is its simplicity. There’s no fancy décor, no elaborate menu—just honest, well-made tiffin that keeps people coming back. And the best part? Everything is priced between ₹20–₹40. Coming from Pune, a city where a “fancy dosa” can easily set you back ₹200, this is refreshingly old-school and full marks to flavour. Friend pointed to the man behind the counter saying he was Sathyanarayana Bhatt, the owner of the place.

S N Refreshments is the kind of place you’ll want to keep in your pocket list of go-to breakfast spots. It’s quick, it’s affordable, and most importantly, it’s delicious. If you’re in JP Nagar and craving a traditional South Indian breakfast that doesn’t break the bank, this little joint should be on your radar.
