Every once in a while, I stumble upon a brand that piques my curiosity. Sometimes, it’s through a friend’s recommendation; other times, it’s just me going down an internet rabbit hole. That’s exactly how I came across Canistel—a brand that claims to bring high-quality, natural products straight from farmers. Given my love for clean, wholesome ingredients, I had to check them out.

They offer a range of products, but the ones that caught my eye were their A2 Desi Cow Ghee, Raw Unprocessed Honey, Peanut Butter, and Wood Pressed Coconut Oil. Each promised purity, freshness, and traditional methods of preparation—things I value when picking out essentials for my kitchen. Naturally, I had to dig deeper.

Here’s a breakdown of their products, covering everything from quality, taste, and texture to freshness and price—because let’s be honest, great products also need to be worth the money!

1. A2 Desi Cow Ghee

  • Quality: Canistel’s A2 Desi Cow Ghee is crafted using the traditional Bilona method, which involves hand-churning curd obtained from the milk of purebred Desi Gir and Sahiwal cows. This meticulous process preserves the ghee’s nutritional integrity, resulting in a product rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K, along with essential healthy fats. The minute I opened the bottle, the familiar aroma drifted taking me back home, to the foods made by mom & gramma.
  • Taste: The ghee boasts a rich, nutty flavour characteristic of high-quality A2 cow ghee. Its authentic taste enhances various culinary preparations, adding depth and aroma to dishes. I made jeera rice and added ghee to it when tempering the jeera, and it gave the rice a beautiful fragrant flavour. Similarly, I made kesari [a simple sweet made using Rava] and it was OMG amazing, yummy and rich.
  • Texture: Depending on ambient temperature, the ghee’s consistency varies from liquid to semi-solid. At room temperature, it remains soft, while in colder conditions, it solidifies, reflecting its natural composition without additives.
  • Freshness: Packaged in eco-friendly glass jars, the ghee maintains its freshness and quality over time. Proper storage in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight ensures its longevity without the need for refrigeration.
  • Price: The A2 Desi Gir Cow Ghee is priced at ₹650 [discounted from ₹850] for a 250ml jar, while a set of 2 X500ml bottle is priced at ₹1,950.00 [discounted from ₹2,796.00]. These prices reflect the premium quality and traditional preparation methods employed.

2. Raw Unprocessed Honey

  • Quality: Canistel offers a range of raw, unprocessed honey varieties, including Ajwain, Beri, Ghaf (Jandi), Multi-Floral, and Rosewood. Sourced directly from beekeepers, the honey is 100% pure and natural, free from additives and preservatives, retaining its natural enzymes and nutrients.
  • Taste: Each honey variant presents a unique flavour profile reflective of the floral sources visited by the bees. For instance, Ajwain honey has a distinct taste influenced by ajwain blossoms, offering a delightful sweetness with subtle herbal notes.
It was so different from other honey, both in texture and taste- quite permium.. I made a breakfast bowl with the last of the strawberries I had reserved along with some seeds and yoghurt and honey on top and also made carrot cake with honey as the sweetening agent and it turned out so good. We took it over to a friend’s and the entire loaf was polished it off in no time.
  • Texture: The honey maintains a smooth, viscous consistency, indicative of its raw and unprocessed nature. Over time, natural crystallisation may occur, a testament to its purity.
  • Freshness: Packaged thoughtfully to preserve its natural qualities, the honey remains fresh and flavourful. Proper storage in a cool, dry place ensures its longevity.
  • Price: The honey varieties are competitively priced, with the Raw Unprocessed Ajwain Honey available at ₹515.00 for a jar, discounted from ₹799.00, reflecting the quality and purity of the product.

3. Classic Creamy Peanut Butter

  • Quality: Crafted from carefully selected premium peanuts, this peanut butter is made without artificial additives, ensuring a natural and wholesome product. The peanuts undergo a meticulous process to achieve a smooth and creamy consistency. They have the classic peanut butter and the chocolate peanut butter version..[Infact, you can order a combo that has one of each.- the combo is priced at 675, discounted from 1150]
  • Taste: The peanut butter offers a rich, authentic peanut flavour with a perfect balance of nutty goodness and creamy perfection. It’s versatile, enhancing the taste of various foods, from toast to smoothies. For a change, I decided to order the Chocolate Peanut Butter and so glad I did that. I made a nice Chocolate Peanut Butter sandwich for an evening snack, and also added some to the smoothie bowl one morning. It worked on both.
  • Texture: True to its name, the peanut butter has a velvety, creamy texture that spreads effortlessly, making it ideal for various culinary applications.
  • Freshness: Packaged in sleek, timeless glass jars, the peanut butter maintains its freshness. It has a shelf life of 12 months from the date of packaging. Storing it in a cool, dry place and refrigerating after opening can help preserve its quality.
  • Price: The 500-gram jar is priced at ₹350.00, [reduced from ₹590.00], offering a balance between premium quality and affordability..

4. Wood Pressed Coconut Oil

      • Quality: Canistel’s Wood Pressed Coconut Oil is extracted using traditional methods that involve cold pressing dried coconut kernels (copra) in wooden presses. This technique ensures that the oil retains its natural nutrients and flavour without the use of chemicals or excessive heat.
      • Taste: The coconut oil imparts a mild, natural coconut flavour, enhancing the taste of dishes without overpowering them. Its subtle sweetness is indicative of its purity.
I used coconut oil to temper mustard seeds and channa and make one of our favourite dishes Morkazhi [ a upma type dish made with rice flour and buttermilk] and fried a few Sundried Chillies in it [these chillies have been soaked in buttermilk and sun dried]. Apart from this, a friend wanted a basic sponge cake but made with oil and not butter, for which the coconut oil was the perfect option and must say it added to the flavour quite well. Want to try it again.
      • Texture: At room temperature, the oil remains liquid in warmer climates and solidifies in cooler conditions, a natural characteristic of pure coconut oil.
      • Freshness: Packaged in glass bottles, the oil’s freshness and quality are well-preserved. Proper storage away from direct sunlight helps maintain its integrity over time.
      • Price: The Wood Pressed Coconut Oil is available in a 400ml glass bottle for ₹349.00 [discounted from ₹450.00] and in bigger 1 litre bottle for ₹599.00 [discounted from ₹850.00]  , reflecting its traditional extraction method and premium quality.

Even thought this was the 1st time am trying Canistel, am quite impressed with their products and definitely recommend them. Their commitment to traditional methods, direct farmer sourcing, and eco-friendly packaging ensures that each product—be it ghee, honey, peanut butter, or coconut oil—maintains its authenticity and high standards. If you’re someone who values quality, freshness, and chemical-free ingredients in your everyday essentials, their range is definitely worth checking out!…
